How to Create Your Best Self-Care Routine

Self-care isn’t about imposing an unattainable standard on yourself, instead, it’s simply about designing moments to allow you the time and space to prioritise yourself.
Be Practical, What Time Do You Have?
Life is busy for us all. Between work, study, family, friends, social calendars (…we could go on), our schedules are often packed.
First, you want to be entirely honest with yourself, how much time do you have for self-care a week? (Or a day, if you’re lucky!). It doesn’t need to be hours on end – even ten minutes can do the trick.
Self-Care Doesn’t Need to Cost the World
Self-care will look different for everyone, and that’s the beautiful thing about it. Whether you’re on a budget or you’d like to treat yourself, we’ve got you covered.
For those wanting to spend as little as possible, you can’t go past a walk with your favourite beverage – whether that’s a coffee, tea, matcha, smoothie or juice – in hand. Better yet, walk yourself to a local neighbourhood street library to pick up a new book to delve into. (Once you’ve enjoyed it, remember to pass it on.)
Those wanting to invest in self-care might like to look into a gym membership or a tailored skincare routine, whether that be products or devices. (We’re biased, but we think the Sonna Brighten LED Face Mask is perfect for self-care!)
Be Inspired
If you’re feeling a little lost, ask some of your nearest and dearest what they do for a moment of self-care.
It’s a beautiful thing to ask people how they prioritise themselves – we bet you’ll love the responses you get. And with this, comes a dose of inspiration.
Start Small and Schedule
Now that you have a realistic take on your schedule and financial considerations, it’s time to lock in your self-care moments. Set aside time in your diary with a reminder, even if it’s just ten minutes. A short period of time is better than nothing.
While it might seem overzealous to designate time for yourself to relax, we promise you, it’s not.
Reflect on Your Efforts
Like all things in life, our self-care efforts and good intensions can take a back seat from time to time. It happens, we’re all human! When planning for a week or month ahead, be sure to check-in with yourself and ensure you’re sticking with it, as much as possible.
Remember, a self-care routine can be fluid and evolve over time. The one thing that doesn’t change? The importance of the act—prioritising yourself.
